Microwaves
Microwave ovens are extraordinary kitchen devices that can cook or reheat edibles much faster than most conventional food preparation appliances. Besides adding a dash of modern flair to your kitchen’s overall appearance, these cutting-edge culinary tools can also take on even the toughest cooking jobs, making them a favorite among the majority of today’s avid renovation aficionados.
Similar to all groundbreaking inventions, the concept of cooking with microwaves was discovered by accident in the early 1940′s by Dr. Percy Spencer, a wartime scientist working on magnetrons, basically vacuum tubes that produce low frequency electromagnetic radiation called “microwaves” with wavelengths between 1 mm to 30 cm, to stabilize long-throw military radars.
While working with magnetrons and microwaves one day, he discovered that the candy bar in his pocket had melted, with the center almost fully dissolved. Realizing that microwaves may have something to do about it, he initiated a series of extensively laborious tests that ultimately led to the production of the prototype for 1161 Radarange, the very first commercial microwave oven released in 1954.
Microwave ovens basically work by exciting the molecules inside the food. This leads to constant uniform friction, which in turn produces fairly high levels of internal heat sooner or later, eventually cooking the food evenly from within. Whether you’re in the mood for a hearty steak or a serving of your favorite frozen vegetables, you can count on your microwave oven to have it ready in no time.
